Taking photos
Taking photos and auto-filing
How JobCam decides which job a photo belongs to, what the match radius means, and what happens offline.
Updated
JobCam opens to the camera. Take a photo and the app files it under the job at that street address. This article explains the rules so you can predict where a photo will land.
The matching rules, in order
Normalised address match
JobCam turns your current location into a street address and compares it with the addresses of your company's jobs. Addresses are normalised first, so minor formatting differences do not prevent a match. A match files the photo immediately.
GPS radius
No address match? JobCam looks for a job whose pin is within the match radius of your position. The radius is 125 ft by default and can be set between roughly 100 and 150 ft in Settings.
Ask you
If there is no candidate, or several jobs are within range, the "Where does this go?" sheet appears. Choose a nearby job, create a new job at this address, keep the photo in Unfiled, or discard it.
Photos are saved first, uploaded later
Every photo is written to your phone before anything else happens. Uploading to your company's storage runs in the background, and it keeps working when you are offline: the upload simply waits for a connection.
To see what is waiting or failed, open Settings → Backup. Each stuck upload has a Retry button.
Adjusting the match radius
A tighter radius (100 ft) is better for townhouses and dense streets where jobs sit close together. A wider radius (150 ft) suits large lots and rural sites where you may be far from the pin.
- Open Settings in the app.
- Adjust the match radius.
- Take a test photo at the edge of the property.
Tips for cleaner filing
- Create the job before the first site visit so there is something to match.
- Use the full street address, including the city, when creating a job.
- If the same address appears twice, ask an admin to merge the jobs.
Photos that could not be placed are never lost. They wait in the Unfiled inbox with a reason attached.
